1 Chapter at a Time

I'm here to tell ya'all this morn'in was one of Minnesota's prime spring weather handouts. Rained like a dickens all last night & the wind howled like a banshee. Woke up to a whooping 28 degrees. This should have sent up the 1st red flag for a Minnesota life timer. Got into my vehicle with a ton of frozen pine needles stuck to the windshield. My daily commute consists of a 48 mile drive, all but 3 miles by freeway. Now, knowing that it had rained all night & froze my second red flag should have leaped up....freeway, 70 mph.....Any true blue blood Minnesotan knows, 1) you do not go 70 mph on icy roads, 2) you do not use your cruise control on icy roads. So, as I hit the bottom of the entrance ramp, soaring somewhere near 73 mph, I pushed in my cruise & settled back with a steaming hot cup of french vanilla java. 1/3 of the way into my journey I approached one of the many bridges on the route. Only, this bridge has a warning sign just before you get to it. You know the ones with a vehicle swerveing from side to side, the old SS kind of deal. Well just at that moment a truck in the left hand lane decided to move into my lane, it was also moving at.....we'll say 70 mph or better. NOW, I know what your think'in. Could have been the same thing that I was think'in in that split second.....I'M DEAD! That's when I seen ICE on the bridge. Heavens to Murgatroid!! I know that I CAN NOT touch my brakes. And the truck in front of me slides to the right & then to the left, just enough to send my two red flagged Minnesota blue blood heart into hipper rhythm. As I gripped the wheel with both hands knowing I was about to go on the famous Minnesota Winter Driving Tilt-A Whirl. You know the one where you hang on for dear life because for the next 30 to 45 seconds there isn't a dang thing you can do. RULES to follow: DO NOT drive 70 mph or faster on icy roads. DO NOT use cruise control on icy roads. And, DO NOT put your mug of hot steaming french vanilla java on your front seat while driving 70 mph or faster with the cruise control on!   Peace!!
Stay Tuned...there is always more to come.
